Mar 2012 Diesel prices hit highest level since August 2008

The price per gallon for diesel gasoline eclipsed the $4 per gallon mark for the fifth straight week, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

For the week ending March 26, the EIA reported that the price per gallon is $4.147, which marks its highest level in three-and-a-half years, topping $4.145 per gallon from the week of August 25, 2008, when diesel prices were on the way down from record highs just weeks earlier, with the week of July 14, 2008 representing the apex for diesel prices at $4.764 per gallon. Mar 2012 Ferro invites carriers to offer pilot project on sleeper berth controversy

Calling all carriers! Wake up out there if you are interested in perhaps helping resolve one of the biggest frustrations among your drivers — the sleeper berth rule.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is looking for a carrier or carriers to propose and implement a sleeper berth pilot that might convince the agency that there’s something better out there than the current rule.

FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro offered the invitation during an interview at the Mid-America Trucking Show during which she revealed that the agency is about ready to review new research on the use of the sleeper berth. Read the rest of this article on The Trucker


August 2011 ARB features case study videos of truckers

ARB has documented three video case studies of truckers – two independent owner-operators and one large fleet company – that are recipients of financial incentive programs to clean and modernize their diesel trucks.

Demo video 2 The first case study features a long-haul independent trucker named Jaime Barajas of Barajas Trucking in Southern California. You might have read in the news lately that ETS has tested DPF technology on two of its low floor diesel buses. But what exactly is a DPF and what can it do? What can it not do? Find out the facts about the DPF here. What is a DPF?

Diesel Particulate Filter DPF stands for "Diesel Particulate Filter". It is a device that can be installed into the exhaust system of a diesel engine to "filter out" a portion of the particles of combustion known as "soot" or "particulate matter". These particles are mostly too small to be seen with the naked eye, although on older diesel engines the largest of them are visible as black smoke.
